Frequently asked questions
What is a word unscrambler?
A word unscrambler takes a set of letters you provide and finds every valid English word that can be formed using some or all of those letters. It is commonly used to get unstuck in word games like Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordscapes, and Boggle.
How do I use wildcard or blank tiles?
Type ? or * in place of any blank tile in your rack. WordSolve will automatically test every possible letter substitution and return all valid words you can form. You can use multiple wildcards at once.
Which dictionaries does WordSolve use?
WordSolve supports four dictionaries: TWL (Tournament Word List) for North American Scrabble, SOWPODS for international Scrabble, the Words With Friends dictionary, and a general English dictionary for casual play and puzzles.
Is WordSolve free to use?
Yes, WordSolve is completely free to use with no account required. All core features — including wildcard support, filters, definitions, and scoring — are available to everyone.
How is the Scrabble score calculated?
Each letter has a point value in Scrabble (A=1, B=3, C=3, D=2, etc.). WordSolve adds up the values of every letter in the word to calculate its base score. This does not include board multiplier tiles, which depend on where you place the word on the board.
Can WordSolve help with Wordle?
Yes! The Wordle Helper lets you enter your color-coded clues — green for correct position, yellow for wrong position, gray for not in word — and finds all 5-letter words that match your known constraints.
